Along with the evolution of the relationship between tourism and economicgrowth, other aspects of economic welfare have been more attractive rather thaneconomic growth. In this study, we will test the causal relationship amongtourism, economic growth, poverty and inequality in Iran by adding tourism toTriangle of Poverty, Economic Growth and Inequality to answer this question:"Is tourism development as an important factor of mentioned triangle to achievea lower level of poverty?”.We test this relationship by applying the GeneralizedMethod of Moment techniques and by testing alternative existing theories in theperiod of 1350 until 1391. Our empirical findings show that tourism has apositive effect on Iran’s economic growth and also reduces inequality andpoverty in this country.

Nowadays, tourism is one of the major constituents and it is considered as one of the main economic sources and an affecting factor on economic development of human societies. Tourism expansion is also affected on foreign exchange and national income, employment and other macroeconomic indicators. According to the importance of this subject and the role of tourism in economic development, this study first tries to evaluate and prioritize 16 provinces of Iran in terms of the types of tourism attractions and some of the economic growth indices using TOPSIS technique and then it tries to study the relationship between tourism attractions and economic growth indices using multivariable regression. Results indicate that Fars, Tehran and Khorasan Razavi provinces have the highest ratings in terms of tourist attractions . And man-made attractions effect on economic development more than natural and historical attractions.

Given the importance of tourism industries and the revenues that can be imported to developing countries, in this current study, we have investigated the effect of tourism revenue on economic growth of D8 Islamic countries. For this purpose, we use panel data method with fixed and random effects estimator, during 1995-2006. The results show that the revenues from tourism have the positive and significant effect on economic growth of these countries. Also the effect of other variables, such as labor force, share of export to GDP, human capital and gross fixed capital formation on economic growth are positive and statistically significant. Hence we suggested that D8 countries increase investment in tourism industries and provide facilities to attract tourism.
